Interstate 10 westbound near Val Vista Boulevard in Casa Grande was closed Wednesday afternoon after a crash.
A commercial truck crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with two commercial trucks and several passenger cars, causing two deaths and multiple injuries, according to a tweet from the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
According to the department, “the at-fault commercial truck ignited and burst into flames after the collision. Two commercial trucks and several passenger vehicles rolled over.”
Those with injuries were “flown out by helicopter or transported by ground to hospitals,” the department told The Arizona Republic.
“State troopers will maintain traffic restrictions in the area for several hours while they investigate the reason for the collision and clear the roadway.”
The crash was reported at 11:36 a.m., according to the department.
The I-10 west was still closed as of 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, and traffic was backed up for at least 10 miles.
